-- The EastPoint Project
The EastPoint Project on the northeast side of Oklahoma City is a reimagined outdoor mall given new life by the collaboration between the architects at Gardner, the developers at Pivot Project and the City of Oklahoma City. The east side of OKC has seen a lack of investment as a result of redlining and segregation that dates as far back as 1915. EastPoint aims to be a catalyst, to encourage public and private developers to invest in the east side, and to inspire the community to envision what the neighborhood could become by rebuilding, rehabilitating, and infilling empty lots. As a product of the partnership between Gardner, Pivot Project, the City of OKC, and the community of the east side, EastPoint hopes be the first of many new developments where ownership is a part of the leasing agreement, so that eastside business owners have the opportunity to hold equity in the real estate to which they help give value.
-- A Building Shaped by Light: Austin Central Library
This film won the Third Place Prize in the AIA Film Challenge 2019. Overlooking Shoal Creek and Lady Bird Lake, the new Austin Central Library is a building shaped by light and designed to respond to the context of its place. The client and project team set aspirational sustainability and design metrics for the project, including two key goals: It would be the most daylit library in the country, and it would serve as a water conservation model for institutional buildings. The heart of the building is the six-story atrium, which provides daylight for more than 80% of regularly occupied spaces. The client envisioned an iconic, civic hub where locals connect with their community by pursuing a variety of interests. The facility is based on flexible, blended spaces including indoor collections and reading rooms, outdoor reading porches, maker spaces, outdoor dining, a technology center, cafe, bookstore, 350-seat event center, art gallery, demonstration kitchen, and 200-car parking garage. Integrated artworks, interspersed throughout the library building, enhance this technology-focused environment by showcasing local and national artists. The unique rooftop butterfly garden and reading porches draw visitors to connect with nature.

Diversity in Architecture, Engineering and Construction is nowhere to be found. Principals of Flow Design Inc. decided to change that in whichever way they could. The film focuses on the early stages of one’s development and the need to inspire, guide and mentor others to begin their journey in the profession. Here we experience the journey to change the profession across the board by inspiring at early stages, guiding during middle school and high school as well as consistently helping those in the path in college and post graduation so that folks from all over can make it as architects. This is part of the mission of Flow Design Inc. which we believe make us all better as a biodiverse ecosystem and ensuring the makers of our cities, represent our cities.
