Arpilleras: Storytelling Through Cloth – A 5-Week Series
Join us for a creative and reflective series where participants are invited to tell their own stories through textiles in a supportive community setting. Together, we will explore arpilleras, a form of South American folk art that uses hand-sewn stitches, fabric appliqué, and embroidery to create narrative “story cloths.”
Guided by art therapist Rebeca Carvajal, ATR-BC, this series offers space to connect with others while expressing personal experiences through fabric and thread. No prior sewing experience is needed—this workshop is open to all skill levels.
Over five weeks, participants will learn the basics of creating arpilleras and develop their own textile story with encouragement and guidance from the group.

- Dates: Tuesdays – 3/24, 3/31, 4/7, & 4/14

- Commitment: Participants must attend at least 3 sessions
- Location: Cohoba (in VAPA) at 700 N Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28202
- Cost: Free, but registration is required
- Ages: 18+
