This month we are fortunate to be granted access to this historic site in Goolwa. This location is run by volunteers who have agreed to open up on Sunday morning for us. We will have access to the jetty and shed. For a small donation Brenton from Armfield will put the kettle on and provide morning tea. Thank you to one of our regular sketchers Fiona Jayne for organising this. Don't forget to indication your intention to come to this Sketch Meet by clicking 'Going'Armfield Slipway and Boatshed was purchased by 1926 Herbert Alexander “Hookey” Armfield 1926 and the Armfield family continued a tradition of wooden boat building, repair and maintenance up until 1983.
In 1986, the Alexandrina Council purchased the site to preserve its historical importance. Since then, the slipway and boatshed have been operated by volunteers dedicated to maintaining traditional wooden boatbuilding skills. Over time, the site evolved into a “working museum,” restoring historic vessels, teaching traditional craftsmanship and supporting the biennial South Australian Wooden Boat Festival.
