Ever wonder what we keep in the vault? We are inviting you to come in and explore the archives as part of Archives Awareness Month and the Museum’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Chat with archival volunteers as they introduce you to the reading room’s resources, such as family files, land history, cemetery indexes, and microfilm readers. Get a look inside our archival vault with a self guided tour. Our Archivist Heather Wilson will be around all evening answering questions and introducing people to the Archives. She will also be offering a demo at 7:00pm about caring for your family archives. The evening will also include light refreshments and music provided by Jessica Wolowich.
Caring for your Family Archives Demo
Photographs in boxes. Letters tucked in drawers. Family history isn’t always in an archive- it’s often stacked away in a spare room or basement. Your family’s records tell a story, but without proper care, those stories can fade. Join us for a hands-on demonstration on how to preserve your family’s history. Led by our Archivist, this session will introduce best practices for storing photographs and paper documents at home. Learn how to identify common preservation risks, choose appropriate storage materials, handle fragile items safely, and organize your collection for future generations.
Date: Tuesday, April 21st
Time: 6:30PM – 8:00PM (Drop-in)
Cost: FREE
No pre-registration is required.
