The Scoutrees program embodies a powerful dual mission: taking action for the climate while empowering the next generation of environmental stewards. With 75% of young people in Canada experiencing climate-related anxiety, Scoutrees offers tangible, meaningful ways to get youth engaged in positive climate action, while highlighting the incredible benefits that healthy forests provide for our planet, society, and economy.By supporting Scoutrees, you are helping to grow Canada’s forests to:
• Provide clean air. Through photosynthesis, trees use sunlight to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and water from the soil. They use these to grow strong and tall while releasing oxygen back into the air for us to breathe.
• Protect biodiversity. Strong trees and healthy forests create habitats where Canadian plants and animals can thrive, supporting rich and diverse ecosystems.
• Promote mental health. Ever notice how good you feel after spending time outdoors? That’s the power of nature! Whether it’s playing at the park or going on a camping trip, being outside supports both mental and physical well-being.
• Reduce climate change while raising awareness. Trees absorb and store carbon dioxide through carbon sequestration, helping to cool the Earth and slow the impacts of climate change. Scoutrees also raises awareness about environmental responsibility while supporting fundraising for local groups. Though climate change is a global issue, it starts with small, local actions that lead to big results.
Scouts Canada – 1st Napanee Valley Scouting Group has proudly pledged to plant over 500 saplings in our community under the guidance of Quinte Conservation on Sunday, May 3rd. Our youth will be collecting donations to support Scouting adventures within our own community while committing to planting these saplings and making a lasting, positive impact on our environment.
