Join WEAG this summer for a unique hands-on experience as we celebrate the Festival of Archaeology 2026!This year’s theme, “Archaeology and Nature”, couldn’t be more perfect for our excavations at Copped Hall in Essex. Set within beautiful, nature-filled grounds, our site offers the perfect opportunity to explore archaeology in a relaxed environment.
📅 Experience Weekend Dates:
• 11th–12th July
• 25th–26th July
• 8th–9th August
Spend a weekend on a live archaeological dig, where professional archaeologists and experienced volunteers will guide you through the fundamentals of excavation and recording. You’ll also get the chance to try a range of essential archaeological techniques used to interpret sites and uncover the stories they hold.
Within the grounds of Copped Hall, a Georgian mansion currently being lovingly restored, lies a fascinating hidden past. Discover the remains of earlier Copped Halls, including a Tudor palace once visited by Queen Elizabeth I herself.
Whether you're completely new to archaeology or already passionate about the past, this experience is perfect for:
