Become a Volunteer English Literacy Tutor at Aquinas Literacy Center!Volunteer English Literacy Tutors commit two-hours per week, one-on-one with an assigned learner.
Our students are adults, 18 years-old and older, who are beginning English language learners.
All tutoring occurs at our Center, located at 1751 West 35th Street in Chicago.
Classes are scheduled 9AM-4:30PM Monday/Tuesday, and 9AM-8PM Wednesday/Thursday, based on your availability.
Because consistent instruction is important in learning a language, we ask that you commit to the same day and time every week. We also ask that you commit to tutoring for a minimum of four months, preferably longer.
As a prospective tutor, you must be a native or near native English speaker. All instruction is in English; knowledge of a second language is not required.
The first step to becoming a Volunteer English Literacy Tutor is to attend a one-hour observation of a current tutoring pair. After you complete your observation hour, you will be asked to complete a registration form, pay a one-time $25 workshop fee that helps cover the cost of books and materials, and sign up for a Tutor Training Workshop.
To schedule the one-hour observation or for more information, please contact Sabrina at 773.927.0512, [email protected], or visit us in person at 1751 West 35th Street.
