About this Event
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a third wave contextual-behavioural therapy with a huge evidence base for its effectiveness. ACT is starting to gather momentum in sport and exercise too - being used to enhance performance, work with perfectionism, facilitate return from injury, treat clinical issues, and more.
In order to benefit from this course you should have a solid grounding and knowledge of the basics of ACT, such as: understanding functional contextualism and relational frame theory, and the hexaflex. If this is not you, then please consider enrolling on the introductory course first [LINK].
This workshop is aimed at trainee and qualified sport and exercise psychologists wanting to get to grips with ACT in a sport-specific context, and who wish to develop their knowledge and skills.
The course is delivered by experts in ACT and its application in sport, with many years of applied practice within elite sport and exercise contexts. The practitioners will demonstrate how these principles have been applied in their practice working with, e.g., the England women’s national football team, professional men’s football teams, and other national and international sport contexts.
The course is designed to cover the following:
• The importance of creating connection and safety,
• How to apply ACT to create safety and connection,
• Applying core ACT processes and techniques with teams.
This is a unique and highly interactive course that enables participants to both observe and practice in real-time with the guidance of the expert practitioners. Places are limited so that attendees receive the time, space, and attention of the expert practitioners to facilitate their learning.
The course is designed to be open, accessible, and inclusive to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment.
