Appledore 14 mile walk

This is a walk of approximately 14 miles starting from Appledore, that explores the low lying landscape overlooking the Romney Marsh. It is a fairly low level loop with very little in the way of ascent (500 foot), albeit a slightly longer than normal route.
Setting off across fields, we rise gently early on to visit Chapel Bank, site of the old Ebony church, also located here are the eerie gravestones, which include members of the famous local acting Sinden family. Our route continues towards Reading Street, before passing the National Trust owned Smallhythe Place (home of the Ellen Terry Museum), which is located on the outskirts of Tenterden, at Smallhythe.
Now on the High Weald Landscape Trail, the circuit sets forth to the village of Wittersham, where our lunch stop, will most likely take place at the church. After which, we head across the Rother Levels, to reach the River Rother, joining the Sussex Border Path alongside the river.
Close to Iden Lock, our route turns northwards on the Saxon Shore Way, up to Stone Cliff and Stone-in-Oxney, before returning to the outward stretch back to Appledore to finish.
As well as the picnic lunch stop, the Ferry Inn in the latter stages is useful for a drink, but can get busy, whilst the Black Lion at Appledore is also good for a post walk drink.
Dogs welcome, but on a short lead when required.
Difficulty: Moderate
Ascent: 500ft
Starting point - Car park in Court Lodge Road, off The Street, opposite Black Lion.
