“Antibiotic Resistance in the Wild: When a Clinical Problem Becomes Everyone’s Problem”
Professor Célia Manaia is Associate Professor of Microbiology and Genetics at the Universidade Católica Portuguesa and Vice-President for Research and Internationalization. Professor Celia Manaia’s lecture will examine how antibiotic resistance spreads beyond hospitals into animals, ecosystems, and everyday environments, and why tackling unwanted microorganisms requires a broader approach rather than focusing on their selective elimination. Her research focuses on bacterial ecology and environmental antibiotic resistance in collaboration with international organizations.
