In this year’s Open Readings 2026 conference Panel Discussion we will explore whether the “revival” of extinct species is becoming a realistic and worth pursuing scientific direction or remains a highly speculative idea that raises more questions than answers. The discussion will address the causes of species extinction, the relationship between de-extinction and GMO technologies, the importance of gene and seed banks, biodiversity conservation, and the potential benefits or risks that such technologies could pose for future ecology and society.Location: National Center for Physical Sciences and Technology, Saulėtekio al. 3, Vilnius.
