Science says: SILLY WALKS are good for you!About this Event
Join us for our Annual Silly Walk together at 11AM at the NCMA!!
Life is Play! Walking silly solo is good but walking silly in a group is HILARIOUS and gosh-darn good for us! Let's DO IT, SILLY!
- WE WILL MEET AT THE North Carolina Museum of Art .
- PARK NEAR THE TALL CHIMNEY THING, off Blue Ridge.
- If you want... BRING YOUR LUNCH to sit and socialize afterwards.
- All ages and stages of being are welcome!
- Walk is about 1.5 miles. Silly walk at your own pace with us or solo.
- Feel free to wear a funny outfit, cat ears, feathered boa or silly antenna! Wear anything silly to add to the absurdity, or not. You be you!
- Before you park... look for the tall round chimney (looks like a cigar). There's easy parking right there and a bathroom plus outdoor table and chairs, and singing swings!!
You'd love this!!
- Led by Integrative Life and Leadership Coach, Speaker, Author and Artist Annelies of Conduit for Change. She's a VERY serious person with a VERY serious silly-side!
- Annelies started the annual Silly Walk tradition in 2023 while taking a Laughter Yoga teacher training course. She discovered she'd created a fun and friendly practice to help birth in the spring and shake off winter blues! She invites you to invite your friends, family and coworkers to Silly Walk into Spring! 😄
Did you know??
- SILLY SCIENCE: Creativity is proven to be good for you! Besides the joy of movement, benefits of laughter, reduced stress, and increased wellbeing in collaboration, shared empathy and play-- this whole thing just makes good sense! Your brain finds ease in the comfort of patterns of play here's some nerdy neurobiology on this stuff!
- Here's another golden nugget: Arizona State University professor Glenn Gaesser loved Monty Python so much, he researched the possible health benefits of one of their funniest skits, the Ministry of Silly Walks. The positive results caught him off guard!
- Silly Walks are the equivalent of running 5-6 miles per hour!
- Burn calories two and a half times more than normal walking!
- Just adding 11 minutes a day of this Silly Walk into a regular walk "meets the Public Health Guidelines for vigorous-intensity physical activity"!
