Jättiläismäiset hulluiksi tulleet robotit riehuvat Tokiossa. Apuun tarvitaan poliisin toista erikoisajoneuvoyksikköä, joka taistelee tuhoa kylväviä teollisuusrobotteja vastaan omilla poliisirobottiasuillaan. Mecha-robottien valtavat voimat ovat kääntymässä yhteiskuntaa vastaan. Käyttöjärjestelmän päivityksessä ne ovat saaneet hyper-tehokkuuden lisäksi taipumuksen itsenäiseen toimintaan ja sekoamiseen.Suosittuun Patlabor mangaan ja animeen perustuva elokuva tuo poliisimechat valkokankaalle. Nimi Patlabor on yhdistelmä sanoista patrol ja labor. Ohjaaja Mamoru Oshii tuli myöhemmin tunnetuksi Ghost in the Shell elokuvista. Patlabor elokuvassa räiskyvän robottitaistelun taustalle rakentuu salaperäinen verkosto. Yhteen kietoutuu kadonneen robottiohjelmoijan itsemurha, futuristisen tekosaarten kaupungiosan Babylon Projectin rakentaminen ja kelluva teollisuusrobottitehdas Ark. Urhea poliisi Noa on valmis taistelemaan robottiasussaan aina viimeiseen savuavaan piirilevyyn saakka.
Patlabor
Giant robots gone mad are rampaging through Tokyo. The police’s second special vehicle unit is called in to help, fighting against industrial robots wreaking havoc with their own police robot suits. The enormous powers of the mecha robots are about to turn against society. In an operating system update, they have gained not only hyper-efficiency but also a tendency to act independently and to freak out.
Based on the popular Patlabor manga and anime, the film brings police mecha onto the big screen. The name Patlabor is a combination of the words patrol and labor. Director Mamoru Oshii later became renowned for the Ghost in the Shell films. In Patlabor, a mysterious network branches against the backdrop of a raging robot battle. The suicide of a missing robot programmer, the construction of the futuristic artificial island city Babylon Project, and the floating industrial robot factory Ark are intertwined. Brave police officer Noa is ready to fight in the robot suit until the last smoking circuit board.
