About the show:
Bringing together some of her favorite local artists, Tamara is proud to present a mystical, magical, wonderous world of forest life as imagined by 9 local artists.
Touching on folklore in storytelling, each artist brings forth visions of its creature inhabitants and their mysterious collaborations, the unstoppable strength of nature, and the poignant narratives they weave together in coexistence.
Celebrating themes like the power of myth, the circle of life from decay, and the reverence for the natural world and its many creatures, we as artists have committed to passing on these ideas and relationships through our art. In handing down concepts of awe and wonder, transformation and metamorphosis, blended with cautionary tales and spiritual practices, we hope to provide a visual guide that future generations can continue to use in honoring and preserving our shared world.
About the Artists:
Casey Capell (Wolftea Creations)- One-of-a-kind wearable found-forest art for the wild and feral. Established in 2010, Casey Capell works alongside business partner, alchemist and metalsmith, Bryan, to craft these largely foraged and repurposed mixed media pieces. Casey crafts ethically sourced bone jewelry and handcrafted home adornments, curiosities, and specimen art from collected parts, reclaimed jewelry, clay, wood, feathers, and scrap jewelry. Using ethically salvaged materials ensures alignment with the artist's values, as each piece retains its story of origin. As you wear, display, or gift these creations on your body or in your home, you are celebrating your love of the transformation, reinvigoration, and reinterpretation of natural history as it continues to exist in its lovingly recreated final state. Bryan and Casey continue to wander the damp Pacific Northwest forests foraging for materials, crafting many of their clay beads, electroformed and etched designs in their jewelry, vending at several curiosities markets and local shops. More of their work can be seen on Instagram @wolfteacreations or on their website www.wolfteacreations.com
Lara Duren King (Dee Dee & Shark)- Lara’s enchanting pieces are inspired by dark/outsider art, offering themes rooted in a magical, mystical, and haunting aesthetic. Deliciously clever and a little bit wicked, the artful beasts she conjures are usually functional objects like mugs, planters, salt receptacles, lamps, and more. Lara’s creations often describe animal forms, hand-sculpted with rich, moody glazes and beautifully rendered painterly forms. From glowing relief-carved tea-lights to eyeball magnets, to ceramic mini specimens under glass domes, Lara is constantly sculpting, painting, and reinventing traditional notions of craft and decor. These decorative and functional ceramics, handmade in Portland, are for those who love a little something weird and wondrous to spice up everyday life. Tamara Goldsmith (Curator, Magic Hour Glass)- In her first curated show at Sidestreet, Tamara is thrilled to present this incredible showcase of local Portland talent. Tamara is a Jill of all artistic trades, having dabbled in most of them, but specializing in metalwork & glass. She owns the Magic Hour Glass, as a fine artist creating custom stained glass. Her stained glass is currently her main artistic endeavor, and she sells her work out of several local shops, including All Burn Wax, Bonejax, House of Orange Gallery, and directly out of her "window shoppe", the storefront window of her home studio at 4828 N. Williams Ave. She is inspired by innovative solutions to design problems and clever upcycling, and strives to ignite the creative spark in young people to do the same. She is a maximalist and loves dark arts, alternative spiritualities, horror movies, and creative people. She works from home, making art and maintaining her Airbnb, also on the Williams property, with her magical spouse and way too many pets. Her stained glass work can be found online at themagichourglass.com and also on Instagram @magichourglass.
Melissa Kojima- Melissa Kojima is a quirky, vintage-loving gal with quick wit and morbid humor. She combines humor and melancholy into her gothic, whimsical artwork to celebrate the wonderfully weird and strange. Pulling together some of her favorite things into her art: vintage paper ephemera, odd children's books, and antique toys, Melissa enjoys combining these with paint and illustration in her own “whimsigothic” way. These wall sculptures were created for this show and delve into her interactive, 3D pop-up world of haunted houses, ephemeral phantoms, and hallucinatory visions of a dream-like reality.
The 3 houses created for this show are also informed by Melissa's traumatic displacement, being forced to move from a beloved home. The 3 beasts are about the interconnectivity of flora and fauna, the individual existing within a community, and the mysteries withiin nature, revealed as secrets, sorrows, and treasures.

Ken Overman- Ken creates giant butterfly sculptures out of color-printed foam-core paper, painted, sculpted & cast resin, fur, and glue. These gorgeous giant butterflies come in several sizes and can be hung indoors or out. A symbol of transformation, metamorphosis, hope, and resurrection, the butterfly is a beloved metaphor across cultures, representing rebirth, freedom, and the fragile beauty inherent in life and the natural world. These butterflies are exclusively available at Sidestreet Arts.
Nicole Gustafsson (Nimasprout)- Nicole, aka. Nimasprout, has worked as a professional artist for over 15 years and also has experience in animation (background design and painting), illustration for games, card/box assets, as well as vinyl record sleeve and book cover designs. Based in the Pacific Northwest, Nicole loves depicting nature in her art. From miniature moments hidden among the clover to gigantic rolling waves, she has a consistent reverence for the natural world. The worlds created in her art often depict themes of home, comfort, solitude, and animal adventures, and are rich with wonder and storytelling. She lives with her partner Cen Galdre, as well as myriad pets, including cats, pups, chickens, ducks, and a snake. More of her work can be seen on Instagram @nimasprout and also on her website www.nimasprout.com
Marika Paz- Marika is a self-taught artist and illustrator. Her art explores the relationships between animals, humans, and nature. Influenced by folk stories and mysticism, her work is dreamy and imaginative, creating a world of magic, wonder, and infinite possibilities. Marika creates intricate drawings of flora and fauna using watercolor, gouache, pencil, and ink. Her work can be seen nationally at galleries, in independent shops, and in various publications.
Marika and her husband, Patrick, run a company featuring Marika’s work in Portland, Oregon. They stock a variety of her paper goods and art in stores and galleries throughout North America. She spends her days drawing and painting, and shares her life and home with husband Patrick, Odin Wolfe the boy, Scout the dog, and Pippin the cat.

Tera Stenzel- Tera is a self-taught artist transplanted from the Midwest to Portland, Oregon, over 10 years ago. Life, love, and humor have always influenced her art, and she has been an avid maker of things since she was a little girl. She works in a wide range of mediums, but especially loves sculpting original creatures in polymer clay. She has been known to embellish these with repurposed materials like raw wool, mesh, yarn, discarded house siding, and acrylic paint. She breathes life into all her unique and quirky people and creatures, describing not just their personalities inherent in their facial expressions but also their endless storylines as if she were creating characters for a play. The miniature wall sculptures made especially for this show feature a small army of her signature mushroom people. More of her work can be seen on Instagram @terastenzel and online at terastenzel.crevado.com
Shanna Doolittle- Shanna founded Fairy Housing Authority in 2023 in Portland, Oregon, believing that every hollowed log and mossy knoll deserves a proper entrance. Fairy Housing Authority specializes in high-end ceramic real estate for the forest’s most elusive residents. Each functional yet fantastical portal is uniquely hand-built, so even the most discerning fairies, gnomes, and pixies can find somewhere to call home. Shanna's work explores the intersection of architecture and folklore, old age queerness and the inevitable lean toward ceramics, and a concern that even the smallest fey creatures have a sanctuary that reflects the beauty of the natural world. More of their work can be found on Instagram @FairyHousingAuthority.
