Fernand Bois d’Enghien has one goal in mind: to rid himself of his mistress, Lucette—a mere popular singer—so that he can make a respectable marriage with the daughter of Baroness Duverger. But nothing goes according to plan. Madly in love with him, Lucette refuses to be cast aside so easily. Add a South American general besotted with her and dangerously quick to violence, a hapless poet who conveniently gets blamed for everything, and a whole gallery of eccentric characters, and Bois d’Enghien soon finds himself in a spectacular predicament. Will he manage to shake off this “fil à la patte“? Feydeau invites you to discover the answer in this three-act farce, written at the end of the 19th century but whose characters still feel strikingly modern today.
The play will be performed by students from the French Society of the University of St Andrews.
