About the exhibit:
My exhibition, Sculptures of the Sweet and Savoury, was initially inspired by Claes Oldenburg’s The Store (1961) but has since evolved into something much different. I am constantly influenced by the unique shapes and colours of various food items and greatly motivated by other food-art sculptors such as Jeff Nebeker and Kamber Carroll, among several others. The most significant challenges I faced while developing this exhibition were complications with certain materials. The process involved a lot of trial and error, but in the end, I am proud of what came of my hard work. It is incredibly important to me that I create art that brings me happiness and is truly based on subjects I enjoy, such as food!
About the artist:
Shannae Jaccard, a Canadian artist born and raised in Kamloops, BC, on the unceded territory of the Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc, has recently earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Thompson Rivers University. Her work, featured in multiple exhibitions from 2020 to 2025, often includes light-hearted themes that aim to uplift viewers. Her art addresses a range of topics, from obscure subjects like insects and tentacles to personal references, such as monochrome portraits of loved ones. Shannae currently specializes in food-themed sculpture works, showcasing playful, oversized, life-sized, and miniature depictions of sunny-side-up eggs, buttered pancakes, and other culinary delights. Known for her attention to detail, Shannae always ensures that each of her works is crafted to the very best of her ability. She believes in making art purely for enjoyment and to brighten the moods of those who may encounter her pieces.
