Hello creative Kamloops folks, I'm starting an Urban Sketching Club here in Kamloops. An art community grows and thrives when people get together regularly to share ideas, experience, and inspiration.
I'd like to make this as simple and low-maintenance as possible: on the last Wednesday of each month, bring your sketchbooks and drawing supplies to Red Beard Cafe, 449 Tranquille Rd on the North Shore, 6-8. Here’s a pre-FAQ:
Q: What do you mean by “urban sketching”? Like, buildings and stuff?
A. What I mean is just people who get together in an urban space and draw anything they like. It could be drawn from reference or from one’s imagination, and the subjects can range anywhere from mountains and trees to dystopian fantasy characters and Pokemon.
Q: What if the last Wednesday of the month doesn’t work for me? Can we try meeting on 1234-day instead? Can we meet more than once a month?
A: There will never be a day of the week or month that works for everyone. Sorry! This is our first try; maybe Wednesdays will be quiet enough for lots of folks to come out. As for meeting more regularly, let’s see what happens.
Q: Will there be a Discord or a WhatsApp group?
A. Honestly, I hope not! I have a lot of things going on. Managing another social media platform will not do wonders for my stress level. If you make stuff you’re proud of, go ahead and shout it out to the world! Maybe they’ll get envious and want to join our cool club. But our primary focus should be on the time we have together and enjoying each other’s creative energy in the moment. A WhatsApp group could be used if the date, time, or location changes. Otherwise, we will be meeting!
Best, Clement
