What: The YWCA and partner organizations will be hosting a facilitation of "In Her Shoes" for community members and providers to highlight Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). This activity, created by the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (WSCADVSA), is an experiential learning opportunity for adults to learn about domestic violence and sexual assault. After the conclusion of the activity, the YWCA Prevention and Sexual Assault teams will facilitate a conversation to highlight the resources that exist in our community to support survivors. Community partners will also be tabling and presenting on their available resources and programs.
April 29th is nationally recognized as Denim Day--a recognition of survivors and an act of solidarity and empowerment. We know clothes do not indicate anything other than a form of personal expression. We encourage attendees to wear denim if they feel comfortable doing so.

Trigger warning: As described, this activity is experiential and interactive. It asks participants to "step into the shoes" of an individual in an abusive relationship. The goal of this activity is not to re-traumatize, but rather to highlight various barriers to accessing services and support as a survivor and how we can aim to minimize those barriers. If you are someone who has lived experience of domestic or sexual violence, this activity may be triggering. We highly advise each individual to assess their own comfortability in exposure to these topics. Advocates and resources will be present during and after the event for additional support.
