About this Event
MCC proudly presents "First," a choir concert showcasing the richness of Indigenous musics and composers. Immerse yourself in the heartfelt melodies that have echoed through generations, blending traditional songs with contemporary compositions. Experience the power of unity as our choirs bring to life the diverse heritage of different Indigenous musics, reflecting the deep cultural connections that are the basis of our community. A highlight of the afternoon will be the Senior Choir's SSAA world premiere of an excerpt from Nancy Walker's opera titled 'First,' echoing the concert's theme of cultural celebration.
MCC is excited to welcome back The Port Credit Secondary School Chamber Strings ensemble as our guest artists for this concert. This ensemble comprises students of grades 9-12 in the Regional Strings Program. They perform at local, regional, and national competitions regularly, and most recently received Platinum Standing and Best-of-Class at the Toronto Kiwanis Music Festival; Gold Standing at the Golden Horseshoe Music Festival; and, Gold Standing at MusicFest Canada's The Nationals.
From traditional rhythms to modern interpretations, this concert promises an afternoon of important voices that honour and celebrate the various traditions that shape our shared identity. Do not miss this extraordinary event that bridges culture and pays homage to the vibrant spectrum of Indigenous music.
