And Still They Vanish is a moving choral concert on memory, loss, and resilience—giving voice to stories history too often erases.
About this Event

Coro Allegro, Boston’s LGBTQ+ and allied classical chorus, led by David Hodgkins, presents And Still They Vanish—a powerful, unflinching meditation on memory, identity, and injustice.

The concert features a single work performed without intermission: James Whitbourn’s Annelies, a deeply moving oratorio based on The Diary of Anne Frank. Through her words, we follow the inner life of a Jewish teenager forced into hiding during the Holocaust, bearing witness to both unimaginable cruelty and enduring hope.

Anne’s story is one of resilience in the face of hatred, and the piece speaks urgently to our present moment. In a time marked by the rise of authoritarianism, unwarranted identity-based arrests, and the erosion of civil liberties, Annelies serves as both a memorial and a wake-up call. We are honored to welcome soprano Sonja DuToit Tengblad in the role of Anne, bringing voice and vitality to a figure who still speaks across generations.

Join us for an afternoon of remembrance and resistance—music that refuses to forget.
