About this Event

Ancestral Pathways: An Introduction to ATRs

with Shantrelle P. Lewis

Description:

What does it mean to return to the source?

Join us at Adanne Bookshop for Ancestral Pathways: An Introduction to African Traditional Religions (ATRs), a grounding and thought-provoking session led by Shantrelle P. Lewis.

This workshop offers an entry point into the spiritual systems that have guided African communities for generations, long before colonization and displacement. Rooted in ancestry, nature, and community, ATRs invite us to reconsider what we’ve been taught about spirituality and reconnect with deeper ways of knowing.

In this session, we will explore:

  • What African Traditional Religions are (and what they are not)
  • The role of ancestors, spirit, and community
  • The impact of colonization on spiritual practices
  • How ATRs continue to live and evolve across the diaspora
  • Book Included: African Religions: A Very Short Introduction

Who this is for:
  • Those curious about ATRs
  • Those seeking deeper cultural and spiritual understanding
  • Those interested in reconnecting with ancestral knowledge
  • Anyone ready to learn in a respectful, grounded space

What to expect:
  • A guided, introductory lecture + discussion
  • Space for reflection and questions
  • A community-centered learning environment

Please note:

This is a sacred and respectful learning space. We ask all participants to come with openness, curiosity, and care.
