Claudio shares a deeply personal offering inspired by his recent journey to Mexico City, you’ll get to experience his unique project, Xochipilli’s Eye (Zo-chee-pee-lee).
Through live sound, storytelling, and ceremony, Claudio brings the spirit of Xochipilli—the Mexica god of music, flowers, arts, and sacred plants—to Wellington. He returned with rare, handcrafted instruments and the wisdom of prehispanic musicians, ready to share a deeply authentic experience.
What the evening holds:
A gentle cleansing on arrival using copal and herbs
Stories of music in ancient times
A powerful opening ceremony with the conch shell & altar
Live music on clay flutes, drums, ocarinas, shells & more—creating magical shamanic atmospheres
A closing traditional chant & deep relaxation
Plant-based dinner & dessert served afterwards!

Meet Claudio Escutia, your host
Born into a musical family in Mexico City, Claudio’s lifelong passion for sound has taken him across the globe - from studying jazz in Montreal to mastering Tibetan singing bowls in Kathmandu. His music weaves together classical training, world instruments (Sitar, Esraj, Harmonium, and more), and a deep reverence for sound as medicine.
