Anatomy Trains Structural Essentials:Fans of the Hip

Course Description
The hip and pelvis combine to transfer the forces from two legs and into the one spine and therefore has a hugely complex role to fulfil in the body. Ida Rolf described the pelvis as ‘the joint that determines symmetry’ and it is easy to see why. Differences between the hips can affect down into the legs or up through the spine. Achieving balance here can be essential for long lasting results in any therapy. This course sheds light on the pelvis – the keystone of human architecture – by organizing the 20 or so muscles of the pelvis into three fans. Get specific with sensitivity.
Course Objectives
Learn how the soft tissue is arranged in an easy to understand pattern: the so-called "fans of the hip"
Use these fans to balance pelvic tilt and torsion
Learn to work accurately, effectively, and sensitively with the abductors around the ischial attachments and deep lateral rotators running towards the pelvic floor
Understand the psoas complex and the many theories about how it affects the pelvis, the lower back, and hip patterns
Prerequisites
You must have completed Anatomy Trains in Structure & Function (ATSF) to participate in this course. Keep in mind, once you have completed ATSF, you are eligible to take all 6 Structural Essentials courses. These can be taken in any order, or as one intensive format in our ATSI Part 1 course. The 6 ATSE courses are:

This course is accredited by both Stichting Keurmerk Fysiotherapie and Kwaliteitshuis Fysiotherapie (Vakinhoudelijk algemeen) for 19 points.

Preparation: Recommended Literature
This course is based on the myofascial meridians outlined in the book, "Anatomy Trains: Myofascial Meridians for Manual Therapists and Movement Professionals" by Thomas Myers. We highly recommend reading this book before your course if you have not already.
The fascial release techniques you will learn in this course stem from the book, "Fascial Release for Structural Balance" by James Earls & Thomas Myers.
If you'd like more information about the concept of BodyReading, we recommend "BodyReading: Visual Assessment and the Anatomy Trains," by Thomas Myers.
