Learn how to be a citizen scientist using your smart phone to record species you find on the nature reserve.
About this Event

Being a citizen scientist is an interesting and incredibly rewarding way of contributing to the collection of scientific data for the purposes of conservation. Without being an expert, you can use free, downloadable apps on your smart phone to record birds, butterflies, plants and other living things in your area.

We will start with a short presentation indoors. This will include an introduction to the iRecord and iNaturalist apps. (Details will be sent to attendees beforehand to ensure that you can successfully download the apps onto your phones before the workshop.) The majority of the session will then be spent outdoors practising your recording skills on our beautiful nature reserve.

Coffee, tea and biscuits will be provided. The reserve will be open from 5pm if you would like to come early and enjoy  a stroll and peaceful picnic dinner before the event starts at 6pm. This session is aimed at over 18s but enthusiastic teenagers are welcome if accompanied by an adult - you need to purchase tickets for both yourself and your child.

We are committed to keeping our visitors, staff and volunteers safe. Please DO NOT attend if you or your child are unwell, or testing positive for an infectious illness, such as COVID-19. Your consideration is hugely appreciated.

Please note the centre is accessible by public transport with regular buses (including connection to Didcot Parkway railway station) serving Milton Park, a few minutes walk from the centre.

Will you help answer nature's SOS call by adding a £5 gift to this booking? You'll help BBOWT bring nature back across our three counties. Please select a donation ticket option if you wish to donate. You can find out more about our Nature Recovery Fund .
