Beyond the inner loop: Aligning AI, accountability and value in the AI-centred enterprise

We are entering the ‘Agentic Age’ of business: a shift from tools that talk to systems that act. But as AI gains the power to make decisions, a dangerous ‘accountability gap’ is opening in the boardrooms of the modern enterprise.

In his Inaugural Professorial Lecture, Alexeis Garcia Perez argues that the secret to navigating this transition lies in the rigour of ‘First Principles’. Drawing on a journey that began with the architectural foundations of mathematics and computing and led to the leadership of the Aston-Capgemini Centre of Excellence for Enterprise AI, Alexeis discusses why technical speed is a liability without human governance. He introduces his views on the ‘Two Loops’ of the modern enterprise: a framework to ensure that as we delegate autonomy to machines, we increase our human accountability for the results. Using real-world insights from his work with global industry, this lecture provides a strategic blueprint for the next generation of leaders. It is a call to move beyond the 'Black Box' of AI and start architecting the ‘Outer Loop’ of genuine, knowledge-driven business value.
