Our Speaker:

Marcolino da Costa is an Irish-Portuguese Frenchman whose deep attachment to his maternal family’s roots in rural Ireland drew him to study Irish history and literature in Paris and Limerick. A teacher of English and History, Marcolino was a lead vocalist in rock bands in his youth and remains an enthusiastic amateur singer of Irish folk songs. In 2008, on a whim, he created a Facebook group called “Shane MacGowan is a fantastic poet”, which has grown into the network’s second-biggest fan base of the Pogues’ front man.

Our Organiser:

Born in Dublin, Patricia Killeen travelled extensively before finally settling in Paris. She graduated with a Master’s degree in English literature and culture from the Sorbonne, Paris 3. She previously worked in public relations and currently writes for various anglophone publications.

Fascinated by the changes Paris unleashes in many of its expatriates’ lives, she hosts the “Turning Points” show for “World Radio Paris.” Patricia also enjoys organising cultural events in the City of Light, and has been one of the leaders of the Cercle Littéraire Irlandais since 2019.

Our Singer:

Stephanie Nic Cárthaigh is a key actor in the promotion of the Irish language, via singing and poetry. She organises the Club Amhránaíochta Phárais, which is part of An Ghaeltacht-sur-Seine, the Paris-based branch of Conradh na Gaeilge, and she directs the Cór Choláiste na nGael at Saint Patrick’s Chapel in Rue des Irlandais. She transmits her country’s cultural heritage, particularly that of the province of Munster, with the enthusiasm of an activist, whether it’s to history students, session musicians, or to her students at the workshop she leads at the Association irlandaise de Paris.

Our Musicians:

Niall Regan is from Castlebar, Co. Mayo. He has been living in Paris since 2018 and plays regularly in Irish bars around the city. He has played many festivals throughout the world including the St Patrick’s day festival, Savannah, Georgia, USA and others including Spain, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark and Finland. He has also performed with a local Castlebar band, the Four and Nines, last year in the Centre Culturel Irlandais during the St. Patrick’s day celebrations.
