About this Event

We cordially invite you to spend An Evening with Tones at the Asian American Resource Center on Thursday, April 9 from 7 to 9pm! This event is a cozy and casual night of original music and poetry and will feature a reading by Jingyu Li, musical performances by Henna Chou and Marlon Hedrick, plus a short Q&A with the evening’s creatives.

An Evening with Tones will showcase Austin-based AAPI creatives in a small, intimate environment (similar to a listening room), putting the spotlight on their talent and ability to share worlds through their art. Through this experience, we hope that attendees and featured creatives can exchange dialogue, feedback, appreciation, and ideas in a candid, sincere, and supportive way.

This event is free, all ages, and open to the public. Light snax will be provided. Registration is encouraged.

ARTIST BIOS:

🇨🇳 Jingyu Li (李静雨) is a poet and translator born in Beijing, China. She immigrated to the states at the age of three and grew up in Wyoming. She studied computer science and mathematics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is currently pursuing her MFA in poetry at The University of Texas at Austin. Her work can be found in The Adroit Journal, Bombay Lit, The Margins, Sundog Lit, Rust & Moth, and others. She has two small kittens and a metaphysical dog named Doug. Her favorite food is hotpot which she eats on a weekly basis.

🇹🇼 Henna Chou is a Taiwanese-American sound explorer with experiences living in Salt Lake City, UT; Tucson, AZ; Overland Park, KS; Berkeley, CA; Ames, IA; Beijing, China; and Montpelier, VT. Previous participations include work with Salvage Vanguard Theater, Paper Chairs Theater, COTFG, BLiPSWiTCH, Heloise Gold, KDH Dance, Collide Arts, The Contemporary Austin, Museum of Human Achievement, Phonography Austin, Fusebox Festival and Performa Dance.

🇵🇭 Marlon Hedrick is a Filipino musician, poet, photographer, and videographer originally born on the island of Saipan. After an unintentional 6-year hiatus, he can finally say he has new music forthcoming this fall 2026.
