About The Event

Join acclaimed Franco-Malagasy author Raharimanana in conversation with his English-language translator Allison M. Charette, to celebrate the recent publication of RETURN.

Raharimanana’s first novel to be translated into English – and only the third novel by a Malagasy author to ever become available to English-speaking readers – is a semi-autobiographical novel of feverish poeticism about a writer searching for, and finding, his place in the history of both his family and his island. A testament to writing as an act of beauty, rebellion, and healing, RETURN venerates how poetry infuses prose, how individual lived experiences can inform collective histories, and how narrowing a narrative focus can tell the story of our wider shared world.

The author and translator will share excerpts from the novel, accompanied by music on the valiha.

Light refreshments will be provided, and books will be available for purchase, & signature.
