ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Carol Porter always knew art would be in her future life. Growing up in Washing- ton DC, she went to many museums and took Saturday art classes at 12-years-old at the then-Corcoran Museum. This background set her up on a trajectory to a career in the visual arts.
As a designer and art director, Porter worked successfully in several media (television, advertising design and newspaper design).
While working full-time, Porter followed the call of her youth and enrolled back at the Corcoran Museum as a continuing ed. student to take drawing and painting classes. Says Porter: “I needed to get away from digital design to putting a brush to canvas or paper.” Later she found that Montgomery College offered many great classes to seniors, so she kept on painting.
Carol Porter also attended art classes in Europe and South America. She spent nine summers painting in Barcelona, 3 in Paris and Buenos Aires. Porter has shown her artwork at Strathmore Gallery, Arts Club of Washington, Glen Echo and other local art spaces.
Now retired, she continues to paint and draw, exhibits locally and enjoys fellowship with other artists. Says she: “Friendship Open Studio is truly one of my best go-to places for fun!”
