About this Event
An afternoon led by book artist and zine collection holder Jen Ouson, built around community. Share a creative space and enjoy the act of making alongside relaxed conversation as we use card and collage, with simple print and stitched elements, to create a small series of loose pages that will be bound into an artist’s book.
This session will be gently led with suggestions, but you are welcome to come with — and share — your own ideas on stitch, fabric, book art and community spirit. The emphasis is on coming together to share time and practice while making. During the workshop, there will be the opportunity to:
- Prepare pages and imagery using simple cut-and-paste collage
- Add, change and extend pages using various coloured embroidery threads
- Incorporate simple rubber stamp shapes and text
- Learn basic bookmaking and binding techniques by folding a simple ‘pocket book’ to hold your pages
Everyone is welcome. Please note that you will be required to use scissors and sharp tools (an awl for hole punching and needles for stitching).
Materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own papers, ribbons, threads and fabrics to incorporate into your book if you wish.
There will also be various zines and artist books from the AB-Z Collection to explore during the workshop, alongside a small selection of books from the Edinburgh College Library for inspiration.
