Discover the vibrant sound world of percussion in an intimate and engaging live performance.
Join us for an exciting afternoon of solo percussion music featuring two outstanding young artists, Jayden and Venus Lam, in a concert that explores the expressive and dynamic world of rhythm.
This special performance highlights the rich tonal colours and versatility of percussion, with solo works performed on marimba, vibraphone, and a variety of other percussion instruments. From warm, lyrical melodies to intricate rhythmic textures, the programme showcases the depth, virtuosity, and artistry of contemporary percussion performance.
Both performers are currently completing their third and final year studying Music at Durham University, where they have been studying percussion under internationally renowned percussionist Steven Moore. This concert celebrates their musical journeys and achievements as emerging professional musicians.
Jayden, originally from Hong Kong, has been playing percussion since 2010. He trained with the Hong Kong Percussion Association before moving to England in 2022, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a strong, internationally shaped musical voice.
Venus Lam, also from Hong Kong, is a dedicated multi-instrumentalist with extensive experience in piano, violin, and percussion. Under the guidance of percussion tutor Vicky Shin from a young age, Venus developed a particular passion for percussion and went on to serve as percussion section leader in her school’s orchestra and wind band. She has recently been accepted to study a Master’s degree in Performance at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, marking an exciting next step in her musical career.
Together, these two performers present an afternoon that is energetic, expressive, and full of musical colour — perfect for dedicated music lovers and anyone curious to experience percussion in the spotlight.
