Get ready to be one of the first to see this feel-good film, which premiered at Cannes in May.

Brought together by the unexpected inheritance of an abandoned house in rural Normandy, four cousins discover they share a mysterious family history. In 1895, their ancestor Adèle, then aged 21, leaves her hometown to search for her mother in Paris. She discovers a city on the cusp of modernity, bustling with new-found avant-garde creativity, with the rise of photography and the birth of Impressionist painting. As her descendants retrace her steps, they unravel Adèle’s surprising past. The two timelines of 1895 and 2024 intertwine and collide, confronting the cousins’ contemporary attitudes with life in late 19th century Paris, leaving everyone’s future forever changed.

Peter says:
“Colours of Time” is painterly, gorgeous and celebrates the art of Monet, among other things. The elevator pitch for "Colours of Time" is that it's like an arthouse version of Woody Allen's "Midnight in Paris," a tale of self-discovery in the big city and a playful homage to France’s rich artistic heritage. Here's a logline for it from Cannes:

La venue de l’avenir (Colours of Time):

Cédric Klapisch, celebrated for delighting French audiences for three decades, makes his Cannes debut with his most ambitious film yet. Spanning 1895 and 2024, the story weaves together the journeys of Adèle (Suzanne Lindon), a spirited farm girl discovering Paris at the dawn of the Belle Époque, and her 21-century descendants navigating the city more than a century later. The film brings together four unique characters — Guy, an eccentric beekeeper; Céline, a meticulous engineer; Abdel, a dedicated French teacher; and Seb, a free-spirited content creator — as they unite to catalog a distant relative’s estate, all while Paris shines as a hub of artistic transformation.
