About this Event
On the occasion of the release of his new album Inspiración, Cuban singer and guitarist David Oquendo will perform a concert alongside some of his longtime friends and colleagues.
This is a free event organized by the Cuban Cultural Center of New York and Instituto Cervantes as part of the AmsterYardSounds.Latin series.
Inspiración is a tribute to Cuban son and its many offshoots, featuring a repertoire that spans different eras and styles from the island. A seasoned musician, Oquendo moves effortlessly from son montuno to bolero, always accompanied by the rich and textured sound of his guitar. His career spans decades, sharing the stage with musical legends such as Paquito D’Rivera, Cachao, Willy Chirino, Marc Anthony, and Arturo Sandoval. He has earned multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy nominations, as well as a Special Tony Award for his pivotal role in Broadway’s Buena Vista Social Club, where he also serves as Associate Music Director.
