About this Event

Workshop Overview
The AMSR-SUD (Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk for Substance Use Disorder) Training is designed for health and behavioral healthcare professionals working in substance use disorder treatment settings. This specialized training equips providers with the skills, confidence, and clarity to effectively support individuals at risk of suicide, ensuring empathetic and competent care.

Who Should Attend
Professionals in substance use disorder treatment settings, including outpatient, inpatient, or residential care, are faced with decisions every day about how to help individuals who may also be at risk for suicide. The AMSR-SUD Training prepares participants to assess and manage suicide risk using the AMSR risk formulation, which is essential for improving patient outcomes in these environments.

Key Curriculum Features

  • Suicide risk identification, assessment, and management competencies specific to substance use disorder care
  • Application of the AMSR risk formulation in various treatment settings
  • Techniques for delivering effective suicide-specific interventions
  • Development of collaborative treatment and safety plans with at-risk individuals

Training Format
AMSR-SUD is a full-day workshop that can be delivered either in-person or online, led by an authorized AMSR trainer. The 6.5-hour session features interactive elements, including discussions, role-playing, and video demonstrations to foster skill development. Participants will receive hands-on experience with the AMSR risk formulation and will have opportunities for feedback from both the trainer and peers.

Continuing Education & Benefits
Participants will leave the training feeling more equipped to handle situations involving suicide risk, with increased confidence and willingness to engage at-risk individuals. Attendees will also receive an AMSR manual for ongoing reference.
