Amina, a young and talented mixed martial arts fighter, struggles to raise her seven-year-old daughter. When she gets a shot at the world MMA championships, she is forced to make the toughest choice of her life. Amina is the first feature film directed by Ahmed Abdullahi, a Swedish-Somali director who has previously directed successful short films, documentaries and TV Series. The film, which is written by and stars , was selected to compete at the international film festival of Marrakech. It was theatrically released in Sweden in December 2023.
In partnership with Almas Foundation, Kayd presents the UK release of the award-winning film Amina as part of Somali Week Festival, with two days of public screenings at Rich Mix.

Ahmed Abdullahi is a Swedish screenwriter and director born in Somalia. The up-and-coming director has made several critically acclaimed and award-winning documentaries and short films, most notably the documentary I am Dublin, and the shorts The Martyr, a Guldbagge winner, and Francis, which was shortlisted for the Foreign Student Academy Award. Ahmed was also selected by the European Film Promotion Future Frames as one of ten most interesting new filmmakers to keep an eye on. Ahmed has directed several successful series such as One-on-One and Top Dog. Amina is Ahmed Abdullahi’s feature film debut.
