The distinction between a “professional” and “amateur” dancer is less about skill level and more about professional status. “Professional” refers to dancers who make a living from teaching or performing tango, while “amateur” refers to those who do not. This distinction does not necessarily mean that professional dancers have a higher skill level than amateur dancers.
