Amazonian Resilience: Addressing Drought and Water Connectivity

The Science Panel for the Amazon (SPA) is thrilled to present an enlightening HLPF side event entitled "Amazonian Resilience: Addressing Drought and Water Connectivity." The engaging panel discussions will feature insights from the latest SPA Policy Briefs on Droughts and Water Connectivty in the Amazon region. Lead Authors from each policy brief, along with stakeholders from Amazonian Indigenous communities, the public sector, and finance sector will participate in insightful discussions, focusing on critical issues confronting the Amazon and key solutions aligned with this year's HLPF focus on SDGs 1, 2, 13, 16, and 17.
The event will emphasize the links between climate change and socio-economic and ecological challenges confronting the Amazon region today. The speakers will offer actionable science-based recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders alike to address droughts, water scarcity, and environmental degradation exacerbated by climate change, deforestation, and the violation of rights of local communities. Through dialogue, knowledge sharing, and advocacy for sustainable solutions, this event aims to spur action toward a more resilient future for the Amazon and its inhabitants amidst the escalating climate crisis, thereby contributing to global sustainability efforts.
