Originally from Temple, Texas, Altin Sencalar is a trombonist and educator now living in Austin. He is celebrating the release of his third album Reconnected, available August 27, 2021. With Reconnected, Altin has built a bridge between two seemingly disparate musical cultures (Mexican & Turkish), and in so doing created for himself a firm identity that honors the past, embraces the present, and looks with hope towards an ebullient future. Sencalar has performed, toured, and/or recorded with Dee Dee Bridgewater, Rodney Whitaker, Christian McBride, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Big Sean, Wayne Bergeron, Michael Dease and many others.Altin holds a bachelor's degree in music performance from the University of Texas at Austin and a master's in jazz studies from Michigan State University. Altin is a performing artist for Earasers Earplugs, Robinson’s Remedies, and was named a 2017 Yamaha Young Performing Artist. Altin is currently on the music faculty at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor as Adjunct Professor of Music where he is the Director of Jazz Ensembles and Trombone Instructor.
“Equally strutting his stuff for jazzbos and pop stars, the bone man reconnects with his Mexican/Turkish roots in Texas and blows up a multi-culti storm that’s easily going to grab you by the ear.” - Chris Spector, Midwest Record
