Human Rights and Impunity for International Crimes – Where Next?

Philippe Sands will draw on the stories in his books from East West Street to 38 Londres Street and the claims to immunity from those whose official conduct is said to give rise to crimes under international law. He will also consider the current threat to human rights and the role of the European Convention on Human Rights in the UK.


Introduced by our Patron Lord Dubs and followed by audience Q&A chaired by Baroness Amos, Master, University College, Oxford.


Please join us after the lecture for complimentary drinks and refreshments, when Philippe will be signing and selling his books.

Early registrations for VIPs are open for you and a guest until December 2025, when the event will be advertised publicly. The event is free, but you may wish to make a donation to support the cost of future events and or new outreach programme to young people in Wandsworth in 2026. We will be in touch about donations once you have booked your tickets.


Professor Philippe Sands KC is Professor of Law at University College London and Visiting Professor of Law at Harvard. He is a practicing barrister at 11KBW, appears as counsel before the International Court of Justice and other international courts and tribunals, and sits as an international arbitrator. His many books have been translated into more than 30 Languages. His latest book, 38 Londres Street: On Pinochet in England and a Nazi in Patagonia, was published in April 2025.

The Alf Dubs Lecture Trust (Registered charity 1210582) exists to advance the education of the public in human rights and refugee issues through a public lecture.
