Alchemy Theatre and The West Virginia Shakespeare Festival are proud to present auditions for our next tour - Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream - Directed & Edited by Mike Murdock
The On The Road with WVSHAKES tour rehearses through May and June, including a performance for during the West Virginia Shakespeare Festival in the summer, and then tours to schools throughout West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky in the FALL of 2026!
All roles will receive a PAID STIPEND, and all roles are open.
As this is a no-frills touring production, the script will be approximately one hour, and there will be few costumes, props or set pieces. Whatever we use must be able to be packed in cars for the tour.
To that, there will also be many fewer actors needed than for a normal production. Actors will play multiple roles or have roles combined. Tentatively we are looking for 8-12 actors, maximum.
THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW GOING IN:
1. Oz auditions will be over by then, so if you didn't get cast (or don't want to do Oz), this is for you. Our rehearsal schedules will most likely conflict consistently, so you more than likely can't do both.
2. Rehearsals will be week nights, as normal. However, PERFORMANCES will be FRIDAY MORNINGS from August to November of 2026.
If you can get Friday mornings off from your job, you will most likely always be back by Noon every Friday to do a half-day, if need be.
However, those dates are non-negotiable, and you need to be able to perform potentially every Friday morning in the Fall, or at least have that availability.
3. Please prepare a MEMORIZED Shakespearean monologue for the audition. Preferably under 2 minutes. It can be comic or dramatic. Bring your best stuff. That's the first test.
WE KNOW THAT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT
But really, our tour every year is a lot of fun and it brings theatre and Shakespeare to kids that don't often get to see (or EVER get to see) these kinds of things.
And you get paid!
Let's do some Shakespeare together!
