For over a decade, violinist Daphne Oltheten and pianist Henrique Gomide have brought the richness and diversity of Brazilian music to audiences in Europe and South America. Combining Brazilian, jazz, and classical influences with masterful ease, the duo takes listeners on a rich musical journey, showcasing seldom-heard works from Brazilian composers including Bahian troubadour Elomar, opera composer Gomes, and luminaries like Gismonti, Guinga, Moacir Santos, and Baden Powell. The duo explores the piano and violin setting with imagination, creativity, and passion to interpret rhythms such as forró, baião, maracatu, and frevo, blending tradition with innovation.
In October, Duo Oltheten Gomide will release their debut album under the Dutch label Challenge Records. This album features collaborations with trumpetist Matthias Schriefl, vocalist Anna Serierse, and percussionist Antoine Duijkers, pushing the boundaries of the Brazilian repertoire even further.
