About this Event
Victor Sanders, Al Rose and Al Day are bound together by years of friendship. For tonight‘s special event, they are bound by the magical sounds of Victor‘s guitar playing. A wonderful evening of songs woven together by the textures of Victor‘s guitar playing.
Al Rose is a mesmerizing, challenging, insightful and ultimately delightful songwriter with a unique command of wordplay combined with considerable musical acumen. His 8 albums have received a bevy of critical praise along with extensive airplay on AAA and Americana stations throughout the US and Europe. The Chicago-based performer has played coast-to-coast as well as Europe and Japan. A consummate and prolific live performer, Rose always puts on a wild yet cool spontaneous show—whether he’s solo, with a full band or some configuration in between. Think of the way a surprisingly loud crackly fire manages to give off a warm, steady glow and the picture comes clear. As a craftsman, Al’s honed his songwriting to a fine edge. He’s got a real gift for melody, and each line cuts just the way he wants—whether to make you laugh or make you cry. He’s backed up the words with catchy, addictive tunes. It’s a kind of protest music. He’s sounding the alarm against complacency. Singing us sweetly through the dark, reaching for the sky, scattering catchy hooks and joyful choruses behind him as he goes.
Victor Sanders has been called “A master of mystery guitar.” His electric guitar and well-equipped pedalboard create sounds hard to believe are coming from a six-string guitar. His playing strives to combine playful imagination with atmospheric textures, and a well-honed technique.
Victor was a founding member of the legendary Electro-Folk-Experimental ensemble, "Care of the Cow," sharing stages with Tom Waits, John Fahey, Tom Rush and many more. As a composer, he worked with Body Parts, an ensemble he created to work with the many talented choreographers and dancers in the Chicago Modern Dance scene. When not playing music, he can be found recording and producing other artists at his recording studio, Lakeside Media.
Al Day has been hailed "Most Promising Songwriter" by Chicago Magazine and has appeared in clubs and colleges throughout the United States and on radio and TV shows such as WFMT's "Midnight Special" and WTTW's "Sound Stage." In 1996, Al formed the Al Day Trio, which released the critically acclaimed CD "Guest House" in 2003. Al has collaborated with Hollywood composer and producer Jim Jacobsen in the group, Naked Davis Jr., with which he released the cutting-edge CD "Troubled." In 2017, Al formed the jazz/spoken word group The Last Word with pianist Bob Long, poet Marc Kelly Smith and bassist/composer Doug Lofstrom.
