About this Event
Professor Ainhoa Mielgo is a cancer cell biologist who joined the University of Liverpool in 2013 to start her research team, funded by a prestigious fellowship from the Wellcome Trust and the Royal Society.
Ainhoa performed her BSc and MRes in biomedical sciences at the University of Navarra (Pamplona, Spain) and the Spanish Research Council (CSIC, Madrid), followed by a PhD in cancer biology at the University of Basel, Switzerland, and a post-doctoral training at the Moores Cancer Center, University of California San Diego, USA.
Ainhoa’s research focuses on understanding how cancer cells acquire the ability to survive and grow in difficult conditions, as well as spread to other organs and evade the immune response.
In this lecture, Professor Mielgo will tell us about her journey as an academic researcher, her key scientific discoveries in the field of cancer biology and how she is translating these findings to find better treatments for cancer.
