Nicholas Peter Oprescu-Havriliuc will explore the current and emerging use of AI across legal services
About this Event

This session will provide solicitors with a structured and practical overview of the impact of Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) in legal practice, and the professional considerations that arise from its adoption.

The talk will explore the current and emerging use of AI across legal services, including legal research, document review, document analysis and drafting, and client engagement. It will look at both the opportunities and the risks associated with AI, with particular focus on professional responsibility, confidentiality, data protection, accuracy, bias, supervision, and professional liability.

Designed as a practical and accessible session, the discussion will focus on how solicitors can engage with AI tools responsibly and, most importantly, understand their limitations. The session will also consider how AI is likely to shape the future delivery of legal services and client expectations.

Content will be delivered in a clear, non-technical manner.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session, attendees will be able to:

1. Understand how AI is currently used in legal practice, including common tools and applications that may be relevant to solicitors.

2. Identify key risks associated with AI, such as confidentiality, data protection, and ethical considerations.

3. Assess when and how AI may be used appropriately for legal work.

4. Recognise emerging trends and future developments in AI and their potential impact on legal practice and client expectations.

5. Apply practical risk-mitigation strategies to ensure responsible and effective use of AI.
