About this Event
Agathe Max is a France-born, London-based violin and viola player. Besides different collaborations (Abstract Concrete, UKAEA, These Towns, Ondata Rossa) she works on projects including electroacoustic composition, music and sound design for documentaries, animated movies, short movies, theatre, contemporary dance and art exhibitions. Max’s last composition Shadoww, journeys from blissful voice and yearning bow work on ‘Ylang Ylang On Heart’ through to intricate synthesis and pounding beats. It’s widescreen, panoramic music propelled by fervid energy, but never at the expense of detail and nuance. Partly inspired by shadow work exercises from her friend Louise Bolla – that is, a practice of psychological therapy which aims to connect with what’s hidden in the unconscious – Max’s music traces a parallel possibility in sound. Music’s ability, whether in a church or a club, to give a brief glimpse of being plugged into something beyond your own ego.
Beachers is the project of London-based Daryl Worthington. He works in the crossovers between accidental and composed sounds, hi and lo-fi audio, with a particular interest in the beauty of the mundane. This takes an array of approaches, from explorations of the materiality and tactility of radio signals through to analogue synthesis, field recording and cassette collages and sample-based computer music. His new album 'There are no cicadas in this town' is out now. It's a contemplation on sensory overload at the edge of the city, blurring droning, rustling guitar into wheezing field recordings. Beachers releases have appeared on czaszka (rec.), Shimmering Moods, Fractal Meat, Wabi-Sabi Tapes and his own ineffectual suns label.
Joseph S plays electronic music as deep metallurgy. His debut EP ‘The Tuning Of Soils’ (ootputs 2024), is a meditation on geological extraction. Specifically, the intrusive and destructive nature of rare-metal mining. Sonics match concept. High tones bend like metals in the furnace. Organic sounds agitate and swirl. Intricate details dance around the stereo field, sizzling and rattling in disturbed equilibrium. Beats and synthesizers carry the eerie foreboding of a looming environmental calamity. The five tracks conjure transformation and transmutation. We hear sonics contort and break before our ears. Presenting terrain in the process of being morphed and a glimpse into the world of blasted surfaces that might await us.
To witness the music live is spellbinding. Spoken word enters the tumult of field recordings and electronics. An extra perspective sucked into the swirl. Beautiful and troubled all at once, we’re placed at the exact point humans, machine and fragile ground collide. A speculative soundscape for a planet bent unnaturally out of shape.
(DJ) Neurotica Exotica
Neurotica Exotica is the moniker of Luigi Monteanni, part of BABAU and co-founder of Artetetra records. With an interest in digital folklore and post-geographic imageries, which he calls fifth-world music, he patches a sonic wunderkammer of beats from the floating world with a smell of overheaten servers.ReplyForwardAdd reaction
