About this Event
A Thought-Provoking Conversation about Film & Power
Join a film historian and screenwriting professor for Censored Screens: Cinema Under Totalitarian Rule, an illuminating conversation that explores how authoritarian regimes have shaped, censored, and controlled the movies we watch. From propaganda and banned scenes to subtle messaging and state-approved storytelling, we’ll uncover how cinema reflects power, politics, and the limits of artistic freedom.
This isn’t a lecture on film theory. It’s a lively, interactive discussion that connects historical and contemporary examples of totalitarian cinema to broader questions about freedom, creativity, and the role of art in society — with plenty of surprising stories and “did that really happen?” moments along the way. Curious minds (and curious questions) welcome.
Don’t miss this chance to reflect, connect, and rethink the power of storytelling with your After5 Society.
