The Gulfport Juneteenth Committee is thrilled to announce the launch of the inaugural Afro-Kids Cultural Day Camp. This groundbreaking day camp offers a unique and immersive experience designed to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of African American culture among elementary school-aged children. 🖤💚❤️✨Scheduled to take place on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Climb CDC and Gaston Point Community Center, the Afro-Kids Cultural Day Camp is set to become a hallmark event in the Gulfport community. Through engaging and interactive activities, children will embark on a journey of cultural exploration, empowering them to discover more about their history and heritage.
The day camp curriculum is carefully crafted to provide participants with a comprehensive educational experience. Children will have the opportunity to learn African American crafts and dances, sample traditional foods, and immerse themselves in Afro-American music. Moreover, they will be exposed to written and spoken history, delving into the rich tapestry of African American culture.
One of the standout features of the Afro-Kids Cultural Day Camp is its focus on age-appropriate topics related to racism, discrimination, civic engagement, and social justice. Through specialized classes led by passionate educators with extensive experience in teaching, children will gain invaluable insights into these critical issues, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to effect positive change in their communities.
"We are incredibly excited to introduce the Afro-Kids Cultural Day Camp to the Gulfport community," said Bobby Hudson III, Executive Director of the Gulfport City-Wide Juneteenth Celebration. "This innovative initiative is a testament to our commitment to providing our youth with meaningful opportunities for cultural exploration and education. We believe that by empowering children to connect with their heritage, we can inspire them to become agents of change in building a more inclusive and equitable society."
Registration for the Afro-Kids Cultural Day Camp is now open, with limited spaces available. Parents and guardians are encouraged to secure their child's spot early to ensure participation in this transformative experience.
