About this Event

Art Workshop for Women & Children – Painting Stories in Bloom

Join us for a welcoming and inspiring creative workshop for women and children, created especially for Afghan and Syrian communities, and open warmly to all.

In this special session, we will explore the beauty of Afghan and Syrian floral traditions through painting on fabric. Together, participants will learn simple and accessible techniques to create their own textile artworks — no experience needed.

You will be guided step by step to paint meaningful flowers such as tulips, jasmine, and damask roses, while discovering their cultural significance and connections to home, identity, and everyday life.

At the same time, we will gently explore flowers commonly found in the UK, creating a shared space of learning, curiosity, and cultural exchange for both women and children.

This is a relaxed and supportive environment where you can:

  • Learn a new creative skill (fabric painting)
  • Spend quality time with your children
  • Connect with others in a calm, pressure-free space
  • Express yourself through colour, pattern, and storytelling

A special opportunity:
All artworks created during the session will be proudly presented in a public exhibition during Refugee Week in June — a powerful moment to celebrate culture, creativity, and community voices.

This is a beautiful chance to:

  • Share Afghan and Syrian culture with the wider public
  • Build confidence and pride through creativity
  • Be part of something meaningful and visible

Participants are welcome (but not required) to bring small pieces of fabric or materials from home to include in their artwork.

No art experience is needed. You are welcome to work quietly, at your own pace, and in a way that feels comfortable to you.

We will also share tea and create a gentle space for connection and belonging.

All materials and refreshments will be provided.

Facilitated by:
Monika A. Lenard – Community facilitator with 20+ years’ experience supporting women and families in multicultural settings. Her work focuses on safety, dignity, and creative expression
