We have some adventurous photographers in our region, and we have pulled a few of these talented people together for an evening of sharing their experiences both in far-flung places and closer to home. You get to relax and adventure vicariously from the comfort of your chair in what promises to be a fascinating evening - these guys have some great stories to tell.
A bit about each of our speakers;
Bob Zuur - A marine biologist by training, Bob worked for governments and NGOs on the protection of the seas around Antarctica during the 2010s. In November 2023, he spent a week in the Falklands and a fortnight on a small tourist ship around South Georgia, in the South Atlantic. He will share photos of stunning landscapes and amazing wildlife, and describe the sad impacts of a wildlife pandemic.
Eve Wereta - a landscape photographer and artist based in Kāpiti known for her prolific body of diverse work, Eve has dedicated nearly 12 years to perfecting her craft, capturing moments that resonate with raw emotion and self-expression. In (**year?) Eve set off on a 90-day expedition around New Zealand, a transformative journey that proved to be full of surprises for her. She will share insights into the profound impact of her experiences on her creative journey and personal growth. Join Eve as she delves into what resonates most deeply within her art, shaped by the unique experiences she encountered while on the road.
Toby Gee - Toby loves to photograph in wilderness locations or while doing adventurous activities, with a focus on trying to capture the magical combination of time, place and light that sometimes converge without warning in the natural world. In March last year Toby and seven others spent 10 days ski touring across Baffin Island, from the tiny Inuit settlement of Qiqiktarjuak on the east cost to Pangnirtung on the west coast. Dragging pulks (sledges) behind them on snow and ice, they camped in temperatures as low as -32 °C. During the day, the temperature often did not get above -25°C.
