Female Transperineal Ultrasound Imaging:

• Transperineal ultrasound set up for perineal assessment

• Supine assessments for pelvic floor muscles

• Detailed learning about the possibilities of pelvic floor ultrasound to assess anatomy and function of the anterior compartment (urethra and bladder), the central compartment (the vagina, vault and uterus) and the posterior compartment (rectal ampulla, anal canal, anal sphincter).

• How to teach pelvic floor muscle contractions/release to your patients?

• Bladder/urethral assessments:

o Pessary placement assessment/picking the right pessary

o Biofeedback -constipation,pelvic pain patients- how to relax the pelvic floor muscles

o Urinary Incontınence patients.

Male Transperineal Ultrasound Imaging

This course will also introduce you to male transperineal ultrasound scanning as related to the post prostatectomy rehab patient and the male pelvic pain patient.

Clinical Applications of Transperineal Ultrasound Scanning:

Alime will also discuss pelvic floor dysfunction related to common conditions such as endometriosis, dyspaureunia and painful bladder syndrome, the definition and effects of hyperactive pelvic floor muscles, essentilal pelvic floor rehabilitation concepts, and how to assess and manage pelvic floor dysfunction using transperineal ultrasound.

In addition, she will present novel ultrasound research (on chronic myofascial pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction) in which she and her co-investigators are utilizing transperineal ultrasound to measure changes in pelvic floor muscle parameters for the purpose of comparing the the pre- and post-treatment effects of external and internal pelvic myofascial release techniques.

Who should attend:

This course is designed for those pelvic health physiotherapists who have prior experience of ultrasound imaging but want to develop thier transperineal skills.
